Mid last week I got the dreaded notification on my phone while taking a video that my phone memory was full. I’m the type of person that takes pictures of everything so wasn’t shocked to see that a large chunk of my memory was photos/videos.
I decided now was as good of a time as ever to start to go through my camera roll and delete things either were duplicates or similar to others plus generally ones I’ve had but never looked at (like screengrabs recommending a book or travel spot).
The rest of last week though this weekend was a daily trip down memory lane that I haven’t really gone down since I took the pictures/videos I was reviewing. I then wondered, how many of us take the picture or record the video and then go about our daily lives and never look at it again.
I remember going with my mom growing up and getting rolls of film developed and then sitting in the car after picking up the pictures reviewing the memories. In today’s digital world, this doesn’t happen anymore. Most of our pictures are in our phones or digital picture frames. How many of us print out pictures nowadays?
Besides getting home from that vacation or event you attended, how many times do you go back and look at the pictures after the vacation or event has passed? I know myself, I’ll look at them later that day and when I get home after a trip but then, I just live and don’t view them again.
This is why going through these pictures and videos was the best trip down memory lane. Memories came flooding back of the years I spend living in Florida, the moment I got my late cat Ash and all of our adventures with the time I spent with him as well as seeing him grow from a kitten to a sassy cuddle bug of an adult cat. I also relived the birth of my relationship with my fiancé from when we first met to our vacations over the years and our ever evolving journey of renovating our home (which is almost done!) among other things.
If you can’t remember the last time you’ve looked at the pictures and videos you have on your phone, let this be a sign to go through them. Go down YOUR path of memory lane instead of getting FOMO from accounts on Instagram. You just maybe reminded that your life is pretty darn awesome.
When I lived in Florida, I was on a sea turtle patrol helping to conserve their species. I had a bunch of videos of sunrises over the beach and combined them (as well as a few other videos) into a over 12 minute video of nothing but the sounds of ocean waves, seagulls, and the beauty of Mother Nature. Check out the video below. I hope you enjoy!
